Senior Design Researcher at Element AI

The Senior Design Researcher works in close collaboration with the EAI Design group and other cross-functional teams to perform primary research that will inform the design of solutions and products. This person works with the Design Research Practice Lead and others in the Design group to identify and implement strategies to grow the presence and influence of design research and design thinking throughout the company.

Position Description:

The Senior Design Researcher conducts primary research with users to assist with product and solution development, contributes to long range research on foresight and important human-centered topics, and coaches others in the company on the importance and methods of design research.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with product teams to scope, design and execute design research; 
  • Develop research artefacts informed by user research, including personas, user journey maps, opportunity reports; 
  • Understand and incorporate complex technical and business requirements into research initiatives; 
  • Conduct user testing to validate prototypes and deepen understanding of users; 
  • Advocate research findings to diverse audiences through in-person presentations and written reports; 
  • Work with the Design Research Practice Lead to build practice and thought leadership inside the company and publicly on how to leverage design research to create symbiotic human-AI products and experiences; 
  • Work with the Design Research Practice Lead to scale user research and user-centered design by coaching individuals and teams in how to conduct design research and user-centered problem solving within lean, agile development cycles; 
  • Build strong collaborative relationships across the diverse teams within the company, including with sales and industry solution teams, research scientists, developers, program directors, and executives; 
  • Stay up-to-date on research, ideation, and evaluation practices and tools that teams can benefit from.
  • Work with the Design Research Practice Lead to evangelize the best ones within the company; 
  • Coach individuals and teams throughout the company on how to conduct design research and human-centered problem solving as part of agile development;

Minimum qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in anthropology, sociology, psychology, human factors, human-computer interaction or related fields or equivalent work experience; 
  • 6 years of work experience in design research; 
  • Experience conducting semi-structured interviews, contextual field research, and user tests 
  • Experience integrating design research into product development; 
  • Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different qualitative and quantitative research methods; 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
