Technical Support Engineer - Milan at Cloudian

Cloudian Inc. is a Silicon Valley based storage platform provider, with additional offices in Europe, China, and Japan, focused on delivering enterprise grade public, private, and hybrid cloud storage solutions. Founded in 2011, Cloudian has developed Cloudian HyperStore®, a fully S3-compatible software-defined object storage platform that enables service providers and enterprises to build reliable, affordable and scalable hybrid cloud storage. Also, HyperFile®, a NAS interface to the object storage world, provides our customers with more access to their data and HyperStore storage.

This is a terrific opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an exciting technology startup in a hot market segment. We use technologies like NoSQL databases (e.g. Cassandra, Redis), advanced Java, Linux performance hacking, and tools like Puppet, git.

Senior Technical Support Engineer
You are Cloudian's customer interface for all technical matters, most importantly, troubleshooting any problems with Cloudian software in installation, operations and management.

Job Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Troubleshooting, answering questions, technical discussion with pre-sales and post-sales customers via email/web/phone. Work with Engineering team for defect reports, troubleshooting, and feature requests.
- Become an expert on the Cloudian HyperFile (a NAS interface) and HyperStore (a distributed storage system deployed on Linux).
- Manage communications/expectations to customers at all level to maintain good relationships with contacts at customers and partners. Customers are cloud service providers, system integrator/reseller partners, and enterprise customers.
- Mentor other Technical Support Engineers and potentially lead ad-hoc projects.
- Occasional off-hours and weekend work.
- Occasional travel to other offices, customer sites.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- 5+ years of technical support experience with demonstrable skills in troubleshooting technical issues with a complex software system. We need more than just information passing between the customer and the Engineering team.
- High degree of analytical and problem solving skills.
- Customer oriented attitude and strong customer facing skills.
- Knowledge of storage technologies and data access methods such as CIFS/SMB, NFS and S3.
- Experience with concurrent or distributed software.
- Proficiency with Linux or Solaris OS, and networking.
- Proficiency in scripting (e.g., bash, python).
- Willingness to help where needed and be an excellent team player.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Programming skills (Java, C/C++, etc.)
- Distributed systems, NoSQL DB, storage systems knowledge
- Experience on cloud environments (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
- DevOps/Automation (saltstack, ansible, terraform, AWS CloudFormation)
