Aircraft Systems Simulation Engineer at Joby Aviation

Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate systems engineer to join our growing team. This is a multidisciplinary position which provides the engineer a chance to interact with many of the key teams within the company, from structures to electrical to powertrain and controls. The position requires a strong mathematical background and a solid conceptual understanding of aircraft systems. Applicant is expected to have experience with systems modelling from a high level, and proven abilities for abstracting and simplifying complex systems. This position is rewarding, as the engineer will promptly see their models drive key design decisions due to the fast pace of Joby Aviation.

Responsibilities:
Interface with team members and experts to understand various aircraft systems
Formulation, analysis, and selection of appropriate models for each subsystem
Assembly of full aircraft system model using Dymola environment
Performance assessments and trade studies
System robustness evaluation
Root cause failure analysis, cascading events prediction

Required:
B.S. in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a relevant discipline
Excellent problem solving and communication skills
Solid understanding of aircraft systems and controls
Strong mathematical background
Advanced proficiency in at least one major CAD package (SolidWorks, CATIA,...)
Good knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink

Desired:
M.S./Ph.D. in relevant discipline
5+ years of working experience in relevant industry
Experience performing system modelling for aircraft or rotorcraft
Advanced proficiency in Dymola systems engineering tool
Expert knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink
Complete understanding of Dassault Systèmes' version control toolbox ENOVIA
Hands on experience working within aircraft certification program
