Software Developer (Univa Grid Engine) at Univa

Univa is currently seeking a Software Developer for our Product Engineering team specializing in distributed computing. The Univa Grid Engine software is written predominantly in C using Posix threads and is deployed by our customers in the biggest data centers worldwide. We continue to integrate and support cutting-edge cloud and virtualization technologies. Work with Product Management, Support, Sales Engineering and customers to understand product requirements and design and implement suitable solutions
Own the lifecycle of products or product modules
Evolve the products, their architecture and their implementation to meet business requirement and technology trends
Integrate the products with Univa or 3rd party products and technologies
Ensure quality and scalability of the product
Develop robust schedules and deliverables on time
Conduct product knowledge transfers to Support and Sales Engineering
Provide backline assistance for critical customer escalations


Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline
2 to 4 years, or more of experience as a software engineer
Strong C/C++ programming skills
Python, Perl or other interpreter languages skills
A good understanding of the challenges in programming complex multithreaded (Posix threads) or parallel software. gdb and dbx are not just acronyms for you.
Sound knowledge of Unix-like operating systems (e.g. Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Mac OS/X)
Strong analytical and root cause analysis skills
Strong team player who is willing to learn and understand the needs of the business and how you and your skills will help achieve company objectives
Experience using common development tools such as source control repositories (cvs, svn, git) , and bug tracking tools (e.g. JIRA)
Ability to ramp up quickly and great team skills
Fluent English languages skills (oral and written) are required
German language skills would be ideal

Desired but Non-Essential Skills and Experience

Experience with Distributed Workload Management Systems such as Grid Engine or LSF
Cloud service providers such as Amazon EC2, Google, Azure, Penguin POD, Rightscale and Rackspace
Modern web-scale infrastructure technologies such as Kubernetes, Swarm, Apache Mesos, Hadoop, Spark, Chronos, Marathon, Aurora or similar tools
Microsoft Windows operating system family programming skills
Container technologies such as Docker and Rocket
Experience using Vagrant or Packer
Web services and JavaScript programming experience
Virtualization software such as VMWare, VirtualBox or Xen
Some experience with databases such as Oracle, BerkeleyDB, Postgres, or MySQL
