Senior DevOps Engineer at Venafi

How you’ll be protecting the world:

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Venafi you’ll be part of an extremely motivated, dedicated, and experienced team that protects many of the largest organizations in the world.

In this mission-driven role, you will implement best practices for a large-scale web application and put extra emphasis on monitoring. You’ll be hands-on in the design, implementation, rollout and maintenance of tools and applications that are critical to Venafi’s SaaS platform and CI/CD pipeline.  You’ll also bridge the gap between product, development and infrastructure by building beautiful, intuitive, and reliable automations.

Ways you’ll make an impact:

    Influence Software Engineering leadership by motivating improvements to Venafi’s software systems and education.
    Provide expert perspective of continuous integration and delivery.
    Define standards for configuration, monitoring, reliability, scalability and performance focused on 99.99 uptime.
    Develop lifecycle of services—from inception and development, through deployment, operation and enhancement.
    Challenge the status quo by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
    Set realistic resource forecasts through system modeling. 
    Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.

The ideal Venafi Warrior will be armed with:

    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, a related field or equivalent practical experience involving software development.
    Excellent grasp of Unix/ Linux systems and networking concepts.
    Experience with AWS, Jenkins, Monitoring concepts.
    Expertise with systems management tools (Terraform, Chef, Ansible).
    Monitoring tools, such as Sensu, Data Dog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK.
    Knowledge of best practices related to security, performance, and disaster recovery.
    Experience developing and supporting existing build, test and continuous integration infrastructure.
    Experience with development and deployment in a hosted cloud environment, preferably AWS.
    Excellent communication, and documentation skills.
    5+ years working in Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar capacity managing SaaS/PaaS environments.

What sets you apart?

    Understanding of the importance of metrics and measuring and also environmental observability.
    General understanding of Git and repository management.
    Expert-level Python or Ruby and shell scripting experience.
    Demonstrable knowledge of TCP/IP
    Ambition: you aren’t afraid to work with technologies unfamiliar to you
    Ability to identify performance bottlenecks, anomalous system behavior, and determining the root cause of issues.
    Ability to fix failures in complex systems.
    Experience with one or more of the following: Java, Go, Ruby, C, C++ or Python.
    Expertise in working with container deployment and orchestration technologies at scale.
    Knowledge of Containers and Orchestration solutions especially Kubernetes and Docker.
    Knowledge of databases, especially Cassandra and Postgres.
