Performance Engineer at Cloudian

Description

 

Cloudian is looking for a Performance Engineer in Test for the Performance and System Test engineering team.  You will get to work on some of the most challenging and interesting problems. You will contribute to our next product generation to deliver on-premise storage solutions. Performance and end-to-end Quality are achieved by working closely with all our engineering teams throughout the release cycle.

 

Our ultimate goal is product quality and performance that ensure an excellent customer experience to support Software as a Service needs.

 

Required Skills and Background:

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience - MS preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience developing automation in Python, in Performance engineering and System Test, 
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience in performance analysis and system tests of distributed storage applications
  • Experience in characterizing, debugging and correcting performance issues in large scale distributed systems.
  • Able to distill volumes of data, analyze performance results, and diagnose performance problems 
  • Experience with large scale system testing and deployment tools, CI/CD (Puppet, Chef, Jenkins, etc.)
  • Experience with developing automated tests.
  • Have experience with Performance, Load, Stress, Limits and Scalability setup and Testing 
  • Knowledge of cloud, networking and storage technologies, comfortable in Unix/Linux environments in terms of both tools and systems administration 
  • Strong Operating Systems fundamentals, Linux administration skills, using containers and virtual environments
  • Proven ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, iterative development environment
  • Excellent communication skills


Highly Desired Skills:

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and understanding of distributed system performance, efficiency and scalability measurements, and analysis.
  • Have experience with capacity estimation, modeling, or planning
  • Have the ability to clearly characterize system performance and scalability to stakeholders 
  • Experience with hardware architecture and database systems internals, query optimization.
  • Publish research papers and product performance technical whitepapers


Responsibilities:

  • Work with architects, developers, and product management to ensure the hardware and software design meet the marketing requirements
  • Conduct root cause analysis of performance issues, propose and implement the solution to fix the issues after root causes are identified and confirmed.
  • Design and implement performance and capacity testing solutions using a variety of third-party and custom tools in a highly available environment
  • Provide release performance assessments and proactively communicate risks and dependencies which may impact the reliability, performance and/or availability of the product.
  • Define, design, and implement benchmarks to generate metrics giving guidance on system characteristics
  • Research next-generation architectures for cloud-scale performance
  • Perform end-to-end System Level and Scalability benchmarks of complex configurations that include multi networks, multi-sites for replication, and large object operations workloads
  • Understand the products in-depth to be able to select and deploy the most appropriate system test tools for limits and performance analysis
  • Establish best practices and/or procedures to accomplish the objectives of projects
  • Troubleshoot complex configuration, infrastructure, networking, and application problems that could impact the performance or capacity of the product.
  • Monitor and manage 200+ nodes using automation and modern DevOps tools 
  • Proactive end-to-end cluster scalability, performance, and exceptions analysis.
  • Communicate and collaborate among cross-functional teams in a multinational environment
