We are currently searching for an Applications Scientist to be a key contributor for the Screening Development group.
Synthego’s Screening Development team performs science-at-scale by applying their expertise and skill sets to drive research and business development.  To accomplish this, we combine project management, automation, and emerging research tools to solve problems that no one discipline could tackle alone.  
The Applications Scientist within the Screening Development team will pair their scientific research skills with development techniques to transition new assays from a research environment to a development and operations setting.  We design and validate large and new automation systems to perform substantial research campaigns for internal and external customers.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will work cross-functionally with support and development teams to coordinate and execute gene-editing experiments in mammalian and primary cell lines.  
This exciting and challenging role involves working both independently and collaboratively to define and further develop applications and assays for Synthego’s portfolio of gene-editing tools.  This role is highly collaborative, requiring occasional collaboration with outside groups, but on a daily basis with internal groups (Research, Business Development, Preclinical, LIMS, Systems Engineering, Operations, Computational Biology, and more).

What You’ll Do

    • Translate assays from research into a development environment, and occasionally assist translating assays into production/operations  
    • Provide feedback and updates to our research and business partners
    • Assist with the project management involved in preparing for and running large automated scientific campaigns that span days-to-weeks
    • Help create a new team running a new business unit
    • Evaluate new products through in-house testing and collaboration with beta customers
    • Generate data for sales and marketing efforts through white papers, app notes, and publications
    • Maintain a deep understanding of the competitive landscape in the genome editing and screening fields

About You

    • A degree in a life science discipline with relevant minimum job experience
    • -BS with 8 years of job experience
    • -MS with 5 years of job experience
    • -PhD with 3 years job experience and/or completed post-doc
    • Ability to analyze data from a variety of sources (machines / databases / people) and draw insightful conclusions in order to assist othersAbility to converse, explain, and theorize several types of assay classes (i.e., cellular, biochemical, and genetic assays).
    • CRISPR or other gene-editing experience 
    • Experience designing and planning experiments independently
    • Experience using automated instrumentation, liquid handlers, and other robots to carry out large amounts of research in limited time frames.
    • General molecular biology skills (DNA/RNA isolation and analysis, PCR/qPCR/ddPCR assay design and validation).
    • Managing and leading multiple, medium-sized (quarter-long) projects running at the same time is something you are used to, both as an individual contributor and as project coordinator, and you’re looking to take on more
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to independently translate a high-level goal into action with minimal guidance
    • Comfortable in a very fast-paced environment
    • You deeply appreciate working with a team of very high diversity in many categories
