Staff MOEMS Engineer at AEye

AEye is looking for a highly motivated Staff MOEMS Engineer.  The successful candidate will work primarily in AEye’s facilities designing, testing and integrating MOEMS devices into our product lines of MEMS based random access LiDAR scanners. The candidate will work closely with electrical engineering team in the development of advanced mirror control electronics and algorithms. The candidate will be in charge of hands-on in-lab experiments and characterization of MEMS devices, its associated components, its subsystems. The candidate will work closely with the systems team on the design and development of the scanning system. The position requires a strong background in photonics and some depth of knowledge in electronics and/or mechanical engineering. 


  • Lead the hands-on research and development efforts of MEMS/MOEMS capabilities at AEye
  • Communicate with MEMS foundries regarding the design, packaging, and overall manufacturing
  • Communicate with our CM (contract manufacturer) on the integration of MEMS and its subsystems into the scanner system
  • Work with the MEMS Control Systems Engineering Team on development of the control electronics and algorithms for agile mirror control
  • Assist and collaborate with other teams at AEYE involved in the execution of the above tasks
  • Provide detailed status and progress reports to management
  • Candidate should be enthusiastic and self-motivated


  • Direct experience in the design, fabrication and control of MEMS mirrors for scanning applications
  • Strong background in photonics, i.e. lasers, photodetectors, gaussian optics, free-space beam steering and fiber optics etc.
  • Direct experience and deep knowledge of one or more various MEMS actuation (capacitive, piezoelectric, electromagnetic etc.) and sensing modalities (capacitive, piezoelectric, piezoresistive, laser/PSD etc.)
  • Direct experience with MEMS foundries and design for dedicated foundry process modules
  • Hands-on experience in MEMS cleanroom fabrication and characterization equipment
  • Direct experience with electrical testing and optical characterization of MOEMS in the laboratory.
  • Experience with MEMS design and simulation tools, e.g. Coventorware/MEMS+, ANSYS, MATLAB Simulink
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, strong organization skills with an attention to detail, excellent documentation capability


  • Experience or strong background in open loop and closed loop feedback control of MEMS devices
  • Experience or strong background in MOEMS reliability testing and packaging
  • Experience or strong background with MOEMS product commercialization through commercial foundries
  • Experience in a fast-paced and demanding start-up experience.


  • MS or PhD Degree in discipline relevant to MOEMS (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied physics etc.) and photonics.
  • Minimum 2 years clean-room experience
