Application Engineer at OnScale
Boston, MA, US

Join a dynamic, entrepreneurial team of world-class scientists, engineers, and developers focused on building the Future of Engineering. Our team comes from BioMed, Aerospace, IoT/MEMS, RF, and many other engineering disciplines. Our plan is simple: build the world’s best computer-aided engineering platform. That means developing the best multiphysics solvers, the best optimization algorithms, the best highly-parallized Cloud HPC system, and the best GUIs/Plugins. We thrive on accomplishment, we move fast as a team, and we’re looking for rockstars to join us.

Because Application Engineers operate at the intersection of the engineering, sales, customer service and manufacturing departments, they must possess strong communication abilities, excellent mathematical modeling and numerical simulation skills and the capacity to facilitate teamwork across departments. Application engineers are a uniquely talented in both customer service and detail-oriented analytical tasks.

Core skills:

  • Having relevant engineering or software development experience
  • Possessing knowledge of software and coding skills specific to modeling and simulation
  • Project management abilities
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate across teams

In order to provide applications and software solutions that satisfy our customers, an Application Engineer performs many different tasks.

Develop Applications

Application Engineers are responsible for designing, developing, and implementing programs and applications. They must be able to perform a customer analysis to create applications that respond to customer’s needs and provide innovative solutions to their problems. They also perform prototyping, application tests, and code reviews to ensure product releases are satisfactory.

Improve Existing Software

Responsible for existing software in addition to new developments, Application Engineers perform debugging, testing, code improvement and re-designing tasks. They work with customer service and quality assurance teams to optimize software products and ensure they stay up-to-date and satisfy customer needs.

Provide Technical Support

Application Engineers must provide prospects and customers with ongoing technical support. This support includes responding to customer issues, providing updated software that solves bug issues, performing installs for customers and working with the customer service team.

Assess Customer Base

In order to build effective applications, Application Engineers must acquire and analyze customer needs and problems, and making recommendations to the engineering team to satisfy customer needs and develop software solutions. They generate ideas for software products that innovate modeling and simulation techniques and fill gaps in the current market.
