Senior Application Engineer at Airy3D

Job description

We’re looking for an individual to assist us in building and leading a team of AEs as we prepare to bring DepthIQ – our passive, single-sensor depth platform – to market. This is a unique opportunity to apply your experience in reference design, system solution development; and your excellent business development/customer-facing skills in markets spanning mobile, consumer, industrial and automotive.


Who are we and what do we do?

We are a rapidly growing team looking for people who share our passion for developing solutions at the intersection of imaging and depth. AIRY3D has developed DepthIQ™, a 3D computer vision platform that consists of a Transmissive Diffraction Mask and computational imaging software that can convert any camera sensor into a versatile 3D sensor at a fraction of the manufacturing cost.


Based in Montreal, AIRY3D recently raised US$10 million in series A funding led by Intel Capital. This financing will allow AIRY3D to advance its licensing roadmap for the first commercial adoptions of DepthIQ 3D by top-tier consumer electronics companies in mobile and other markets such as automotive and AR/VR.


What are we looking for?

We’re looking for a highly technical and collaborative individual to assist us in building, leading and motivating a global team of talented engineers to enable the promotion of AIRY3D through system solutions and tailored reference designs. 


What you will do:

This is a highly visible senior position which will have an important and broad impact on current and future business expansion. Ultimately, you will play a key role as the lead and managing contact point at the factory for our team in the field. You will train, lead and coordinate all inbound and outbound activities. Your work will consist of a mix of the following tasks and expand over time: 

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term organizational goals and execution plan which is aligned with the business strategy.
  • Develop and implement formal phase/gate early-sample process for lead customer demos. Ensure that early demos are well positioned, and boundary use modes are well defined and explained to the field engagement teams.
  • Work closely with leadership to align with the objective and requirement in system solutions and reference designs; and develop system solutions and tailored reference designs to enable the promotion of AIRY3D.
  • Develop and, define the market focus and target depth imaging applications in order for AIRY3D to win and to excel.  
  • Develop collaborative working relationship at all levels within AIRY3D, maintain regular communication with leadership team on project alignment, provide regular business report and status update to keep all relevant parties and global team informed and aligned.  
  • Participate in the new technology evaluation, and lead the application development activities for new technologies including identifying the proper use cases, platforms, and markets.


What you will bring to our team:

  • At least 5-10 years related experience in Application Engineering, Test Engineering, Camera Engineering, or Technical Marketing within Imaging.  
  • Demonstrated ability in both strategic planning and tactical execution.  
  • Hands on experience in reference design and system solution development.
  • The ability to deliver a development project on time and on budget.  
  • Proven track record in Imaging and/or 3D application development, preferably in automotive, industrial and/or consumer market segment.   
  • Self-motivated team player and can-do-attitude, demonstrated ability in hiring and retaining the top performing and customer focused engineering team.  
  • Innovative and proactive in pursuing the technical solutions for the problem defined.  
  • Have the strong sense of urgency in supporting the internal and external customers, good time management skill and ability in multi-tasking.  
  • Experience in creating white papers, data sheets, application notes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, spanning our internal teams, leadership, customers, and partners.  
  • Domestic and international travel is required. 

Bonus points: 

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Customer engagement.
  • Small and large audience presentation experience.
