Quantum Dot Synthesis Scientist – Korea at Nanosys

Nanosys is the worlds’ leading designer, manufacturer and supplier of state-of-the-art Quantum Dot technology to the TV and display industry.  We are headquartered in Milpitas, California, in a 60,000 square foot nano-materials manufacturing and R&D facility. Our proprietary Quantum Dot Enhanced Film (QDEF®) technology, a key component of the Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV revolution, is enabling a new generation of displays using Quantum Dots to deliver vivid color, lifelike brightness and incredible power efficiency at a fraction of the cost of competing technologies.  As of 2019, industry leading consumer electronics brands such as Samsung, TCL, Hisense and Vizio have shipped over 10 million award-winning devices from tablets to TVs based on Nanosys’ proprietary technology.

We are constantly developing new products and new markets both domestically and overseas (primarily in Korea, China and Japan) and as a direct result of our growth we now need to accelerate our development work with our partner companies in South Korea and hire a Quantum Dot Scientist to work at one of our labs in Gyeonggi-do.

Quantum Dot Synthesis Scientist
Our Korean based lab that develops advanced Quantum Dot related materials is expanding and it is for this reason that we need to hire a QD Synthesis specialist to work for us in our facility in Gyeonggi-do.

We are looking for a Scientist with a background in chemistry or materials science to work on the development and improvement (and co-development with partners) of quantum dots for advanced materials, such as photoresists, inks, and related materials.  The ideal candidate should have experience in Cd-free QD synthesis, surface modification and ligand exchange, QD characterization, and ability to modify material properties as requested by partners.  Experience with QD synthesis is essential, and experience with their integration into polymer materials and display components.  Routine interaction with Nanosys partners in Korea is also required.

Summary of essential job functions/responsibilities:

  • Development of advanced quantum dot synthesis methodologies.

  • Frequent collaboration with Korean partners.

  • Regular communication with our R&D scientists at US headquarters in Milpitas, California.

  • Transfer of QD synthesis processes from US to Korean laboratory.

  • Rapid production of improved sample materials for customer evaluation.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have demonstrated experience and talent in QD synthesis.

  • Experience in technical interaction with development partners.

  • Measurement experience: Materials, optical, chemical, & film characterization.

  • Understanding of photo-luminescence of QD for display application.

  • Industrial process development experience is preferred.

  • English – the ideal candidate must speak excellent English.

  • Self-Directed – our new scientist must have a successful track record of working independently on complex technical projects based on guidance from our senior R&D team here in California.

  • Collaboration Skills – due to the nature of this industry partnership the ideal scientist should be very comfortable and confident working with numerous Nanosys partners in Korea. 

Required Educational Qualifications:
PhD in an appropriate field (Chemistry, Materials Science) and at least 2 years of related industry experience, or a Master’s Degree and at least six years of relevant experience.

Location and Travel Requirements:
The new hire will work for Nanosys (a privately held Quantum Dot chemical manufacturing company based in Milpitas, California) and will be based in our lab in Gyeonggi-do, Korea and he/she will need to spend the first 2 or 3 months of their employment at our headquarters in California learning our technology and processes.  Due to the “technical transfer” nature of this job several visits to the U.S will be required throughout the year.
