As Senior Director, Retail insights you will combine your strategic thinking, analytical expertise, and project management skills to deliver thought leadership and fact based insights to the world’s largest retailers. Reporting to the Chief Research Officer, you will be the insights partner for our retail practice. 

The InContext culture requires our leaders to both sell (with the support of account teams) and deliver (execute project work) multiple simultaneous projects across retail clients.  Client engagement will include developing a deep understanding of client business issues, developing learning agendas, scoping projects, mining the data for insights, and presenting results that lead to outcomes.  As the insights leader you will be supported by analysts within client services who are experts in research execution.   

To be successful you will have a passion for market research, an ability to design and execute quantitative shopper research, deep knowledge of retail merchandising, and an ornate ability to storytell.   As our retail customer expert, you will have the ability to influence InContext’s insights product roadmap, as well as providing coaching for junior team members.


  • 8+ years of market research experience; preferable in CPG or Retail
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or Business Administration; MBA or MA in Social Science preferred with a concentration in research, marketing, or quantitative analysis.
  • Skilled in the application of advanced research design, appropriate methodologies, and statistical applications.
  • In-depth understanding of complexities of Retail companies – how they operate and make decisions – from sales, to category management, to brand and research.
  • Ability to understand category and space management concepts and to integrate these concepts into learning opportunities.
  • Ability to apply business conclusions and insights to drive business planning and decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to ask probing questions, understand concerns, overcome objections, and expand business relationships with senior and C-Suite representatives.
  • Highly creative individual who can envision unique use cases, business models, and customized solutions through consultative discussions with the client
  • Skilled in identifying relevant information sources to explore shopper, customer and category business opportunities, and in drawing upon these various information sources to develop compelling recommendations
  • Personal computer expertise especially with Microsoft Office Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations based upon actionable insights
