DSP Engineer at Lisnr
Cincinnati, OH, US

LISNR is seeking an Audio DSP engineer with expertise in audio applications to join our growing team! The problems we solve are related to audio transmission and the recovery of data encoded in audio signals. Our core platform targets iPhone-, Android-, and Windows-based apps.

About LISNR:

LISNR powers transactions and connects the online to offline customer journey globally with the most advanced Ultrasonic Data Platform. Originally developed as a device-independent method of communicating short messages to consumers, the software solution inserts and then extracts data using inaudible tones through standard speakers and microphones.

About this role:

  • You'll research, prototype and develop DSP solutions/technologies for transmitting data using high-frequency audio, such as microphone arrays, beamforming, AEC, and noise cancellation algorithms in an adaptive fashion.

  • You’ll iterate on prototypes and guide the design (selecting components, sensors, communication protocols and algorithms).

  • You'll be expected to wear a few different hats, with help from a supportive interdisciplinary product team.

This position may be right for you if:

  • You’re excited to guide the development of an entirely new product and love to work in teams, discuss problems and find pragmatic solutions.

  • You have a strong foundational understanding of electrical and software engineering, and specialized knowledge about digital audio processing, digital microphones, and DSP algorithms.

  • You’re excited to expand your knowledge of electronics and software and explore the field.

  • You write clear documentation and enjoy research and development.

  • You are experienced in software development, particularly with Matlab.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Signal Processing or equivalent practical experience.

  • Technical and mechanical knowledge in the field, especially as it relates to electrical engineering, acoustics, music, and audiology.

  • Knowledge of acoustic design methods for speakers and microphones.

  • Experience designing and running experiments.

  • Ability to work well with a team.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Matlab.

Preferred skills:

  • MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Signal Processing, or related field.

  • Experience with one or more of the following audio technologies: equalization, dynamic range compression, automatic gain control, noise suppression, acoustic echo cancellation, and microphone array processing.

  • Knowledge/previous experience with FSK, PSK, and adaptive algorithms.

  • Experience in developing and optimizing algorithms running on DSP and ARM processors.

  • Proficiency in other coding languages, like C, C++, Python, etc.
