Synthego is looking for a seasoned PR and Communications Director with a passion for media relations and curiosity in technology and business, social media, and digital media strategy. This position reports to the VP of Commercial Marketing to champion Synthego and reach the diverse audiences inclusive of press, analysts, and prospects.
The PR and Communications Director serves as the Synthego’s primary spokesperson; creates, implements, and evaluates a communication plan to inform and raise awareness about Synthego and supporting the company's strategic plan, mission, vision, and goals.  Are you someone who gets excited about creative storytelling, crafting the perfect business pitch and PR strategy? What You'll Do

      • Full yearly planning and execution tied to business objectives with measurable outcomes. 
      • A steady cadence of earned media and story development to keep media engaged and to-to-date; bylines placed across a variety of publications; and strategy for paid and owned media.
      • Oversees the communications function including budgeting, planning and managing of the Public Relations firm.
      • Facilitate communication of top executives by drafting, editing, and finalizing content for major events, articles in print and on the web, editorials, blogs, etc.  
      • Drive positioning and messaging for major company initiatives, responses to issues and industry developments.
      • Corporate message development based on data-driven insights of the market, media and analyst landscape. Socialization of that message internally to ensure message consistency across all materials - internal and external.
      • Run PR campaigns tied to corporate and industry events and designed to drive maximum awareness and build relationships with key media and influencers
      • Develop a comprehensive and coordinated issues/crisis communications plan to minimize risk and damage.
      • Work across the marketing organization to ensure message consistency and campaign cohesion.
      • Manage speaking engagements, event participation and awards with agency support.

About You

    • BA or higher degree in Communications is required; prior marketing experience with a biotechnology company is strongly preferred.
    • Seven plus years of significant and progressively challenging communications experience in BioTech / Pharma/BioPharma or Diagnostic public relations and communications work required
    • Strategic thinker with understanding of the role of multi-platform integrated communications to advance organizational objectives.
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills; Ability to write authentically for different “voices” within the Synthego to create messaging that drives engagement
    • Demonstrates initiative in seeking new kinds of opportunities to raise awareness about the Synthego’s event and initiatives
    • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with top tier reporters and editors, and in successfully positioning subject matter with the media to achieve high-impact placements.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to work on deadline and multitask.
    • Ability to learn quickly, synthesize and teach back to the company, customers and larger social media community.
    • Proficiency with social media, presentation software, Google apps, and media tracking software a must.
    • Strong opinions, loosely held. Willing to fight for an idea, but willing to compromise too.

Nice to Haves

    • Experience working in a startup environment
    • In-depth understanding of CRISPR or Biotech
    • Familiar with HubSpot or other marketing automation software
    • Proven track record of managing contractors and vendors
